Semi-Spheres

The sphere is an essential shape, always in balance. Its form immediately evokes the dynamics of the cosmos. It is a simple shape obtained even from the primordial gesture of letting clay slide on the hand to form a ball. By cutting it in half, I obtain the semi-sphere, which also becomes a container.

For a ceramist, the ability to contain – both internally and externally – is an important action. In antiquity, the vessel/container served not only to transport something useful inside (such as food) but also to convey the mythological narrative on the outside (through depictions).

In the semi-spheres, I allow glimpses of the different elements that are involved in their construction. The fragments and leftovers from the ceramics process become the content, the story of that object, just as the color on the inside, with its properties of absorption or reflection, becomes the emotion to transmit.
